Students of Abylkas Saginov Karaganda Technical University are learned financial literacy from the very first days of their studies

The regular Address of the President of RK Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev “Fair Kazakhstan: law and order, economic growth, public optimism” emphasizes: “Living within our means is the only possible recipe for stability of public finances”.

It should be taught from school. But, unfortunately, even in their student years not everyone can boast that they are sufficiently prepared in terms of financial literacy. Therefore, the Abylkas Saginov Karaganda Technical University tries to pay special attention to this issue from the very first days of study at our university.

This academic year, one of the first lectures for freshmen was devoted to financial literacy. At the meeting with first year students of our university held today, September 3, Aigul Sagatbekovna Daribekova, Associate Professor of the Department of “Economics and Enterprise Management”, Candidate of Economic Sciences, told what every student who enters independent life should know.

Why do they need this financial literacy? What can they face in their lives? How can they avoid trouble by taking advantage of the promised promises of banks or microcredit organizations? Covering these questions, Aigul Sagatbekovna led the conversation with the students in such a way that they actively joined the discussion of the issues raised.

Due to their youth, few of them have had to familiarize themselves with loan agreements or real estate purchases. But when making everyday purchases in stores, they could not help but pay attention to the separate VAT line in the receipts. And those who have already had some experience of working in companies or service sector – on the amounts of deductible taxes. What are they used for and how is the state budget formed in general?

And these questions were also thoroughly answered by the student.

Of course, it is impossible to cover all the topics within one academic hour. However, this is only the first, but not the last meeting dedicated to improving financial literacy of students. And there is every reason to hope that students of Abylkas Saginov Karaganda Technical University will have a solid knowledge of both financial literacy and their chosen specialties upon graduation.
