On September 12, at the Youth Palace “World of Youth”, students of Karaganda Technical University named after Abylkas Saginov met with Dr. of Philosophy, Associate Professor, and Head of the Reactor Installation Development and Testing Department at the Institute of Atomic Energy, a branch of NNC RK, Nurzhan Yermolovich Mukhamedov, as well as Professor of the “Engineering Thermophysics named after Zh. S. Akylbayev” Department at Karaganda University named after Academician E. A. Buketov, Candidate of Technical Sciences Bekbolat Rakhishevich Nusupbekov.
During the meeting, the speakers discussed the global and national environmental situation, the harmful emissions from operating thermal power plants, as well as the global experience in nuclear power plant construction and its socio-economic efficiency. Key issues related to the concerns of nuclear power plant opponents in the country were also addressed, along with forecasts on this matter.
To enhance understanding, simplified diagrams of reactor operation were presented to students with basic knowledge of nuclear power plants. Feedback from students showed that they recognized the importance of nuclear power for the future. Overall, the speakers’ arguments in favor of building a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan were more convincing than those of its opponents.
