Laboratory tests dedicated to the development of modified bitumen were conducted at the Building Materials and Technology Department (BMTD) of Abylkas Saginov Karaganda Technical University.
Together with a chemist colleague, work was carried out to study the effect of various modifiers on the properties of bitumen. The purpose of the research is to improve the strength characteristics, resistance to temperature fluctuations and durability of the material.
During the tests, the following works were carried out: preparation of the initial bitumen, the introduction of various modifying additives into its composition, such as polymers, sulfur-containing components and carbon black; study of the interaction of bitumen with modifiers at various temperatures; evaluation of the obtained samples for resistance to deformation, stretching and external factors.
Laboratory tests have shown the promise of using modified compounds for use in road construction. The obtained samples have improved performance characteristics, which allows us to count on an increase in the service life of road surfaces.
These studies open up new horizons in the field of materials development using recycled materials and innovative technologies. It is planned to publish a scientific article, which will describe in detail the results of the work carried out in the near future.
Bitumen modification is a contribution to the development of science and technology that make roads stronger, safer and more durable.
