Educational work of the Mining Faculty!
An essential element in the preparation of engineering personnel at the university is the educational work with students. The goal of student education is the comprehensive development of the personality of future specialists with higher professional education, possessing a high level of culture, intelligence, social activity, and the character of a patriotic citizen. The main task is to create conditions for the active life of students, their self-determination and self-realization, and to maximize the satisfaction of their needs for intellectual, cultural, and moral development.
The current tasks of educational activities are:
- Forming personal qualities necessary for effective professional activity;
- Developing a civil stance and patriotic consciousness among students, along with legal and political culture;
- Cultivating in the teaching staff an attitude towards students as subjects of their own development;
- Fostering moral qualities and intelligence;
- Teaching students skills in managing a team through various forms of student self-government;
- Preserving and enhancing the historical and cultural traditions of the university and the institute.
The objectives of educational activities at the university include creating conditions for the self-development and self-education of each student, forming a humanitarian worldview, a high level of moral, aesthetic, and physical culture, as well as instilling pride in one’s nation, country, and city, and respect for our history and culture.
There are currently 1983 students enrolled in 100 academic groups at the Faculty of Mining. Educational work is carried out by a curator assigned to each group. Curator hours are held weekly in all groups according to a schedule prepared by the curator at the beginning of each semester, in line with the patriotic education model adopted by Abay K. Saginov Karaganda Technical University (KarTU). In addition, curators conduct unscheduled work with students, such as discussions on violations of university rules, the dangers of smoking, alcohol, and drug addiction, AIDS prevention, and the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, as well as addressing issues related to religious extremism.
Active communication with parents is conducted via WhatsApp and email (Mail.ru). Parents have created email accounts and receive regular reports from curators on their children’s academic progress. They are fully informed about life at both the institute and the university. Individual preventive work is carried out with students who systematically miss classes, as well as with their parents, through phone calls, personal meetings, and invitations to department meetings, where such cases are thoroughly discussed, and disciplinary measures are applied when necessary.
Once a month, the Faculty of Mining holds meetings of the Curators’ Council, during which the Deputy Dean for Educational Work and senior curators from the departments of RMP, GRMP, and MDiG RAiOT analyze curator hours and report on the educational work carried out within the faculty’s groups.
Particular attention is given to students living in KarTU dormitories. Faculty staff conduct regular checks on dormitory conditions, identify problems and difficulties faced by students living away from home, and provide support to out-of-town students. Students of the Faculty of Mining are active members of the KarTU Students’ Union “Zhas Orda,” which organizes and conducts various events both within the faculty and across KarTU named after Abay K. Saginov.
