In the second decade of March 2024, Abylkas Saginov Karaganda technical university was visited by Professor of the Technical University Freiberg mining academy (Technical University Bergakademie Freiberg) Carsten Drebenstedt.
His working visit took place as part of the implementation of the «Master Program in Eco-Mining Engineering and Innovative Natural Recourses Management» (EMINReM) project in the program Erasmus+.
The EMINReM project started in February 2023 and is designed until the end of February 2026. In this project, our partner universities are K.I. Satpayev Kazakh national research technical university, technical university Bergakademie Freiberg (Germany), Dumlupinar university (Turkey), university of Jaen (Spain), leading universities of Ukraine (Zhytomyr state polytechnic, Dnepropetrovsk technological, Donetsk national technical) and Uzbekistan (Islam Karimov Tashkent state technical and Navoi state mining technology).
The goal of the project is to improve the efficiency and environmental sustainability of mining operations through collaboration between partners and universities to train the next generation of specialists in the field of environmental, economic and management achievements in the field of mining and mineral processing.
The EMINReM project aims to develop the interdisciplinary openness of future specialists, their ability to systematically and deeply understand technological problems, using tools for modeling and assessing potential environmental risks, adapting them in a rapidly developing world.
As part of the visit of Professor Carsten Drebenstedt, meetings were held with the director for strategic development, professor G.S. Zhetessova, and the dean of the faculty of mining, G.S. Zholdybayeva and heads of departments – «Development of mineral deposits» by A.Zh. Imashev, «Mine surveying and geodesy» by E.N. Khmyrova, «Mine aerology and labor protection» by N.R. Zholmagambetov and «Geology and exploration of mineral deposits» by F.M. Issatayeva, head of the Center for International Relations S.E. Rakhimbayeva. During these meetings, negotiations were held on the development of cooperation between universities in the field of education, science and culture, the development of joint educational programs for the master’s degree in mining, and the prospects for the implementation of academic mobility of master’s students, doctoral students and teachers.
Professor Carsten Drebenstedt and project manager EMINReM from our university A.Zh. Imashev discussed the experience of developing a master’s curriculum, focused on the integration of best practices and approaches using the example of European universities in the field Eco-Mining, development of educational materials and creation of a laboratory «Eco-Mining».
