Scientific and Technological Session at Saginov Technical University: Prospects for Leaching in the Mining and Metallurgical Industry

Saginov Technical University in Karaganda is hosting a scientific and technological session dedicated to modern leaching methods and their application in Kazakhstan’s mining and metallurgical sector. The event is organized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan in collaboration with Kazakhmys Corporation. Leading scientists, industry experts, and business representatives are participating in the session to discuss the latest innovations in hydrometallurgy.

The session program includes plenary meetings, presentations by domestic and international specialists, and discussions aimed at identifying innovative solutions in the field of leaching. Participants are exploring the prospects of underground and surface leaching of copper ores, the implementation of scientific developments in industry, and the commercialization of new technologies. Special attention is given to fostering cooperation between science and business.

The session’s opening ceremony was attended by Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Yermaganbet Bulekpayev, Akim of the Karaganda Region. The Minister emphasized the importance of such events, noting that scientific and technological sessions represent a new format of collaboration between science and industry.

“Today, Karaganda is hosting a landmark event—the eighth hackathon, which we are organizing in partnership with major enterprises. We are fundamentally changing the model of science funding and the approach to implementing scientific and technological policies in Kazakhstan. Now, researchers, specialists from research institutes, and universities are directly engaging with industrial enterprises, identifying real challenges that require innovative solutions.

This new collaboration format has already proven its effectiveness, and leading corporations in the country have recognized science as a driving force of progress. Our goal is to help industrial companies reach a new technological level, increasing their contribution to the economy through the advancement of science and technology,” said Sayasat Nurbek.

Saule Sagintayeva, Chairman of the Board-Rector of Saginov Technical University, highlighted the significance of the event for the development of Kazakhstan’s mining and metallurgical complex:

“Our university has become a platform for discussing key challenges and future prospects in the mining and metallurgical industry of our country. This scientific and technological session focuses on one of the most critical areas—improving leaching methods and integrating them into industrial processes. This is not just a scientific discussion; it is a search for concrete solutions that could become breakthrough technologies for the innovative development of our mining and metallurgical sector.

I wish all participants productive work and the development of practical, constructive solutions.”

Over the course of two days, participants will present their scientific reports, share experiences in applying modern technologies, and develop prototypes of innovative solutions.

The session will conclude with the presentation of the developed prototypes and project solutions, which have the potential to be implemented in the industry.

Additionally, as part of the hackathon, an exhibition of scientific projects by Saginov Technical University researchers is being held, showcasing innovations that have already been successfully implemented in industrial production.
