The world acrobatic gymnastics championships are the largest competition in this sport. It has been held since 1974. Acrobatics is not yet an Olympic sport, but it is quite possible that it will become one soon.

From September 19 to 22, 2024, the XXIX world championship was held in Guimaraes (Portugal), in which Illarion Matsymokha, a student of the faculty of architecture and civil engineering (student of group S-22-3rus.) took part.

At the world championships, medals were awarded in all 16 disciplines. These are team competitions, as well as competitions for men’s and women’s pairs, mixed, men’s fours and women’s threes in the all-around, balance and dynamics, respectively. At the same time, the current championship is only the second in history, where medals were awarded separately in balance, dynamics and all-around.

Following the performances, Illarion first made it into the top eight pairs, and in the final performances he took 6th place, receiving a license to participate in the world games in 2025.

We congratulate Illarion on his worthy performance on the world stage and wish him new successes in sports and studies!

Portugal began with Guimaraes, which became its first capital before Lisbon took over. And it was here that Portugal’s first king was born. From the ruins of a Celtiberian tribe to a well-preserved medieval castle and numerous churches, Guimaraes has rightfully earned its title as a world heritage site.

With its hilltop castle and medieval architecture, Guimaraes looks like a town from a fairy tale. Considered the cradle of Portugal, it has UNESCO status and boasts manicured gardens, a historic palace and a 13th-century church.
