On September 12, a meeting of students of Abylkas Saginov Karaganda Technical University with Doctor of Philosophy, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Development and Testing of Reactor Devices of the branch of the Institute of Atomic Energy of the RSE National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurzhan Erolovich Mukhamedov and Professor of the Department of Engineering Thermal Physics named after Professor Zh. S. Akylbayev of E. A. Buketov Karaganda Research University Academician, PhD in Engineering Sciences Bekbolat Rakhishevich Nusupbekov took place in the Youth Palace “Zhastar Alemi”.
During the meeting, the speakers talked about the environmental situation in the world and in particular in Kazakhstan; about the harm to the atmosphere caused by emissions from the existing thermal power plants and the world experience of building nuclear power plants, the socio-economic effect of their use. Anticipating safety issues raised by opponents of NPP construction in the country, the speakers elaborated on this. Using figures and facts, demonstrating the evolution of the nuclear technologies used, they managed to convince that science has advanced so far that accidents like Chernobyl are simply excluded.
Since even future engineers have a very general idea of how NPPs work, simplified reactor operation diagrams were shown to them for clarity.
Judging by the students’ feedback, all this convinced them that NPPs are the future. In any case, the arguments for NPP construction in Kazakhstan presented by the speakers turned out to be more convincing than those presented by opponents.
