The Department of «Geology and exploration of mineral deposits»
The department “Geology and exploration of mineral deposits” is the same age as the university. In 1954, the department was headed by associate professor N.E. Sokolov. In 1959, M.T. was elected the head of the department. Samsonov, who later became a professor ¬ sor, who made great efforts to strengthen the material base of the cafe, the quality growth of teachers.
From 1970 to 1989, the department was headed by a doctor of geological and mineralogical sciences, professor, corresponding member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan M.A. Ermekov. In 1990, the duties of the department head were performed by associate professor A. B. Baybatchaev. From 1991 to 1997, the department was headed by associate professor B.D. Bilyalov, on the initiative of which, since 1994, the training of mining geological engineers was opened.
From 1997 to 2011, the department was part of the Department of Geophysics and Geology.
In accordance with the order (No. 574 dated August 27, 2011) of the rector of the academician of NAS RK A.M. Gazaliev was revived the department of geology and exploration of mineral deposits. The head of the graduating department has been appointed and is currently the doctor of geological and mineralogical sciences, professor, academician of the Academy of Mineral Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan B.D. Bilyalov.

For the formation and development of the department, a great contribution was made by the heads – Assoc. Sokolov N.E. (1954-59gg.), Prof. Samsonov M.T. (1959-70gg.), Prof. Ermekov M.A. (1970-89), Assoc. Baybatchaev A.B. (1990), Assoc. Bilyalov B.D. (1991-97, 2011-2013, 2013-2015, T. Kryazheva).
Department “Geophysical methods of prospecting and exploration of mineral deposits.” The founder of the department “Geophysical methods of prospecting and exploration of mineral deposits” is the department of “Geophysical methods of exploration.” It was created in 1962 at the Rudny branch of the Kazakh Polytechnic Institute, in 1969 it was transferred to the Karaganda Polytechnic Institute, where training of mining geophysicists began in the specialty “Geophysical methods of prospecting and exploration of mineral deposits.”
An objective prerequisite for the creation of the department was a large amount of exploration work in large oil and gas provinces of Kazakhstan, an increase in the volume of prospecting and exploration work for solid minerals, and a lack of specialists in geophysical methods for researching wells.
Heads – S. I. Shavykin (1969-1979), Yu.N. made a great contribution to the formation and development of the department. Borisenko (1979-1984), V.S. Portnov (1984-1989), Yu.N. Pak (1989-2001), G.T. Borisenko (2001-2003), Yu.V. Bochenin (2003-2009), M.V. Ponomareva (2009-2014), Thalerchik M.P. (2014-2015).
In 2015, the departments of geophysics and geology merged and since then the department is called “Geology and exploration of mineral deposits.”

Gray; Candidate of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences T.V. Kryazheva; Senior Lecturers: A.N. Kopobaeva, R.U. Parafilova, A.R. Marchenko, L.K. Novikova, A.V. Sadchikov, N.V. Zhelaveva; teachers: A.A. Kenetaev, G.G. Blyalova, Mazakh B .; Assistant: N.S. Askarov .; Head Laboratory: M.S. Ilyasheva.
A geological museum operates at the department, which contains unique samples of minerals and rocks from deposits in Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and other countries.
The department participates in the preparation of bachelors of specialty 5В070700 “Mining” of all three paths: “Open mining”, “Underground mining ¬ minerals”, “Mine and underground construction” and the trajectory “Oil and gas” and “Ore” specialties 6В07201 “Geology and exploration of mineral deposits. ”
The Department of Geology and Exploration of Mineral Deposits has long ties with the departments of higher educational institutions of the CIS, and provides feedback on abstracts of dissertations by scientists of the CIS. The department collaborates with related departments of Moscow State University. M.V. Lomonosov, Ural State Mining and Geological Academy (UGAA, Ekaterinburg), State Academy of Oil and Gas (GANG Moscow), Kazakh National Technical University, Tomsk Polytechnic University in the exchange of educational and methodological developments, modern technologies of learning and knowledge control.
The department practices the invitation of leading scientists and teachers from other universities to give lectures, consultations of graduate students, doctoral students. In different years, they were invited and lectured to students and employees of the department: prof. Artsybashev V.A. (Leningrad Mining Institute), Malovichko A.K. (Perm State University), prof. Starchik L.P. (Institute of Atomic Energy Moscow), doctors of geological and mineralogical sciences – Ponomarev V.N., Vozhennikov G.S., Utkin V.I., Bakhvalov A.N., Koshelev I.P. .
The department trains mining geophysical engineers, geological engineers for enterprises that are engaged in the search and exploration of oil and gas fields; search, exploration and exploitation of solid mineral deposits, which is of paramount importance for Kazakhstan.
Master’s program is opened under the guidance of Prof. Pak Yu.N., Assoc. Bilyalova B.D. in the direction of “Applied Geology and Exploration”.
The Department of “Geology and exploration of mineral deposits” in accordance with the license of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan (order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 12014940 dated October 22, 2012) has been carrying out PhD doctoral students since September 1, 2014.
For the formation and development of the Department of State Pediatric Medical Institute, the great contribution was made by the heads: A. Sadchikov (2015-2017), V. Portnov. since 2017.
