In connection with the expansion and growth of machinery production at factories in Kazakhstan in the 50-ies of the last century there was a shortage of qualified personnel, so the government has decided to open a machine-building profile in the Karaganda Polytechnic Institute.
The first set of students, a total of 25 people specializing in technology engineering, machine tools and tools, was launched in 1959 at the metallurgical faculty.
For the development of the specialty and the release of highly qualified Universities, the administration and the faculty have done a great job in attracting qualified personnel to teaching from leading universities and leading engineering companies of Russia. In the early years is widely practiced by the leading experts of the Central universities (Moscow machine tool Institute, MGTU im. Bauman, etc.): Malte G. I. – candidate of technical Sciences, Professor of the Moscow mining Academy, Sakharov G. N. – Professor, laureate of the Stalin prize, Borovoy A. A. – Professor; Lisitsyn V. D. – Professor; Arbuzov, Yu. L. – Prof. – Moscow machine-building Institute.
In August 1961, the Department “Technology of metals” was invited Ettel A.V., worked as chief technologist Luberetsky factory of agricultural machines, providing it with the title of associate Professor, who in September 1962 and led the new Department “Technology of mechanical engineering.”From this time began the formation of the Department: to create offices, laboratories, equipment.
The first lecturers of the Department were: Kim P. Starukhin, S. V., V. A. Klishina, Klishina E. V., Belostotskaya L. I.
The main task of that period was the acquisition of the faculty. This problem was solved by the involvement of the Department, aimed at the distribution of specialists of the Central universities postgraduates: Nerubay M. S. from the Kuibyshev Polytechnic Institute, ushomyrs’ka L. – from the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute.
The best graduates of the first set was sent for postgraduate study at leading universities of the Soviet Union: Churikov A. P. Akzhol-AM, Kim DP at the Moscow machine-tool Institute, Abilov cm – In the Tula Polytechnic Institute, Baumann, in the Bryansk Institute of transport engineering, Gusev V. G. – in the MSTU. Bauman, A. E. Bengard – at the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute. They all successfully defended his thesis and began working at the Department of teachers.

At different times the Department was headed by prominent scientists and production workers: Ignatov S. N. (1971-1983 gg.)) – Currently, Professor of the Murom branch of the Bauman MSTU].N. E. Bauman, G. G. Piven(1983-1993 gg.), Professor, academician of IAS HS, since 1994, the rector of KSTU, Olsztyn P. V. (1994-1997).) – Candidate of legal Sciences, associate Professor, is currently Deputy Director of the Kamyshin branch of Volgograd technical University; Shvoev VF (1997-2008) – candidate of technical Sciences, associate Professor Zhetesova GS (2008 – 2014) – Professor, K. It should be noted that under the leadership of V. A. Ettel, and further Ignatova S. N., Piven G. G., Shvoev V. F., Zhetesova G. S. and K. T. Serova the Department is constantly conducted research work on the state budget and economic contracts, are subordinate to the ministries and engineering companies that allows us to defend a number of masters and doctoral theses. Today the Department performs work on two grants of RK and is working on international project TEMPUS.
Since the Department began a new specialty. In 1970 he took the first set on a specialty “Engineering”, whose graduates are qualified engineer and educator. ” The opening of this specialty was caused by a lack of specialists in vocational education, the preparation of working machines.
Graduates of this specialty along with high training received and the necessary educational training conducted by the Department of education and the Russian language under the guidance of PhD., Professor Gontovoj S. A.
In 1994, in connection with the opening of the specialty “Metal machine” was a division of the Department into two: “mechanical engineering” and “Metal machine”, but in 1996 the Department rearmed, which was caused by a decrease in planned administration.
In 1997, for the first time in Kazakhstan was opened a new specialty “standardization and certification.”
During its existence the Department “Technology of mechanical engineering ” has trained more than 2300 professionals working in different regions of Kazakhstan, CIS and abroad.
