The fourth industrial revolution The Fourth Industrial Revolution — – a predicted event, the mass introduction of cyber-physical systems production (industry 4.0) and the service of human needs, including life, work and leisure.
It got its name from a 2011 initiative led by businessmen, politicians, and scientists who identified it as a means of increasing the competitiveness of the German manufacturing industry through enhanced integration of “cyber-physical systems”, or CPS, into factory processes.
