At the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, we will note a number of achievements
of the NTM Department:
Currently, the NTM Department trains bachelors and masters in the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs “Metallurgy” and “Materials Science and Technology of new materials”. Since 2008, training in the PhD program of the Russian Academy of Sciences in the specialty “Metallurgy” has begun.
Graduates of the department successfully work in areas and individual contracts at enterprises in Astana, Uralsk, Atyrau, Rudny, Petropavlovsk, Zhezgazgan, Pavlodar, Almaty, Balkhash, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Cherepovets, Novorossiysk, Chelyabinsk and other cities of Kazakhstan and the CIS.
There are three branches of the department at the department: at LLP “KMZ im. Parkhomenko”, at the Chemical and Metallurgical Institute named after J.Abishev, at Santehprom LLP. The tasks of the branches are a combination of university theory and practical experience of leading industrial companies for the organization of internships for teaching staff and students; the formation of a personnel reserve of enterprises through targeted training of specialists according to the educational programs available at the department; conducting joint scientific research with the involvement of students on the basis of contractual relations to create new technologies, equipment and materials that improve the quality of training and economic sustainability of enterprises.
All bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral degree programs have successfully passed international accreditation at AQUIN Agency.
In 2007, a Laboratory of engineering profile “Integrated development of mineral resources” was established on the basis of the University, the Department of NTM participates in scientific activities in two areas of the Laboratory: “Research of phase transformations and structure formation in order to create new technologies and materials” and “Technologies for processing mineral raw materials and waste disposal”.
The department conducts research in the following areas: surface hardening of steel products by pre-microalloying and subsequent laser treatment; processes of pulse and dynamic sealing of molds and the choice of parameters of molding machines; certification of quality control systems for castings; research of the structure, properties of metal and the development of new grades of alloys and technology of their industrial production; development of devices and devices for determining the technological and rheological properties of molding mixtures; research and implementation of new technological processes for obtaining castings by special types of casting.
The department has created a unified mathematical model of pulse compaction of shapes, implemented on a PC. The processes of mold manufacturing, the theory of compaction (deformation) of the molding mixture under dynamic loads based on rheological methods and visco-plastic compressible media have received worldwide recognition. The method of calculating the basic design and technological parameters of molding machines and automatic machines of this principle of operation is used in the operation of automatic molding lines of Georg Fischer (Switzerland) and BMD (Germany). Automatic pulse forming machines have been developed for the first time. 85 copyright certificates and patents have been obtained for designs and methods of forms.
To fulfill orders related to the determination of the quality of metals and alloys of industrial enterprises and firms of the Republic of Kazakhstan, joint work has been intensified with JSC “National Center for Expertise and Certification”, in particular, with the Karaganda branch – testing center “Non-Destructive Testing Service”.
The scientists of the department work closely with such reputable organizations in this field as the RosAtom State Atomic Energy Corporation (Russia), the CIRIMAT laboratories of the Paul Sabatier University – the French Aeronautics Center, the Ecole de Mines of the University of Lorraine (France), the Berlin Technical University (Germany), and the leading technical and technological universities of Russia – NUST “MISiS, Peter the Great SPbPU, IRNIT, as well as ArcelorMittal Temirtau JSC, Kazakhmys Corporation LLP and other industrial companies of the mining and metallurgical complex of Kazakhstan.
According to the research results, teachers have published more than 1,500 scientific articles, received 220 copyright certificates and patents of the USSR, Russia, Kazakhstan, Germany, Switzerland, etc., published 25 monographs and 20 textbooks. Current pulse forming models have been exhibited at international fairs and exhibitions in India, Algeria, and Germany. The authors of the developments were awarded 5 gold, 8 silver and 7 bronze medals of the VDNH of the USSR and 6 diplomas of the 1st degree of the VDNH of Kazakhstan.

Over the years, the staff of the department has been awarded various awards and prizes: the A. Baitursynov medal (Isagulov A.Z.), the badge of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan “For contribution to the development of science” (Kvon St.S.), the badge “Enbek Danky” (Isagulov A.Z., Isin D.K., Kvon St.S.., Kulikov V.Yu.), diploma of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Manzhurin I.P.), “The best young scientist of Kazakhstan” PH (Shabanov E.Zh.), “The best engineer of the year” (Isagulov A.Z., Kulikov V.Yu.). The holders of scientific scholarships and grants were teachers of the department Kulikov V.Yu., Arinova S.K., Isagulova D.A., Makasheva A.M., Aitbaev N.B., Dostaeva A.M., Omarova A.E. Prof. Isagulov A.Z. and Prof. Kulikov V.Yu. was awarded the title of “Honored Inventor of the Republic of Kazakhstan”.
Professors of the department Isagulov A.Z., Kulikov V.Yu., Kvon St.S. entered the general rating of the Top-50 university teachers of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In April 2022, the Project of scientists-teachers of the department under the leadership of A.Z. Isagulov became one of the examples of successful commercialization of high-tech technologies. In the annual rating of the Science Foundation, the project “Improving the corrosion resistance of ferrous and non-ferrous metals through the use of galloisite nanotubes” was included in the top 30 commercialization projects in Kazakhstan.
Based on this work, an automated site for the production of anti-corrosion coatings “Aktau” was created and successfully operates on the basis of the Karaganda Machine-Building Plant named after Parkhomenko. Seven new jobs have been created. Currently, more than 90 tons of products have been manufactured. The profit amounted to KZT 292 million. Consumers of coated metal structures are JSC ArcelorMittal Temirtau, LLP Karaganda Engineering Consortium and others.
In 2015, the Center for Heat-resistant Materials (CGM) was organized at the department in order to develop the national school of metallology of heat-resistant materials. In the project “Development of heat-resistant alloys and new generation technologies for the production and processing of parts based on them”, a heat-resistant alloy was obtained, comparable in properties to the alloys of the Nimonic group, but with a lower cost, since the developed technologies are 70-80% based on raw materials of Kazakhstani content. The new alloy has heat-resistant properties higher than currently used steels by 30-40%. In 2020, a team of authors, consisting of three representatives of the NTM department (Isagulov A.Z., Kvon St.S., Kulikov V.Yu.), was awarded the al-Farabi State Prize of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of science and technology for this work.
The target consumers of the research of the International Center for Materials Science are research organizations and manufacturing enterprises of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, China and other countries.
Currently, the Department of NTM is one of the leading and oldest departments of the university. The department continues to develop dynamically, both in the field of scientific research and in the training and education of personnel for our country. The staff of the department carefully preserves its traditions and at the same time is looking for new ways to solve the problems of the modern world.

Associate Professor of the Department of IIA, Ph.D. Bolat A.J. was awarded a letter of thanks in honor of the 6th anniversary of the scientific society of women Scientists and the scientific journal “Science.Women.Society”, as well as in honor of the publication of the encyclopedia “Famous women scientists of Kazakhstan” for their contribution to the development of the journal “Science.Women.Society”.
Associate Professor of the Department of IIA, Ph.D. Zhakupova Sh.S. was awarded the medal “Patriots of Astana” and a diploma of the first degree as part of the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the city of Astana.
- Participation in competitions for R&D financing
Dzhantasova D.D., Ph.D., Head of the Department of IIA won a grant for research in the field of education of the KN MNiVO RK under the grant financing project on the topic “Intensification of scientific and professional language training of technical specialists in the context of digital transformation of education” for 2023-2025.
Teachers of the department of IYA Toluspaeva D.Zh., Isina N.T. won a grant from Karaganda Technical University named after Abylkas Saginov following the results of a competition of scientific projects for young scientists. A project on the topic “Organization of research activities of technical students through teaching business communication in English”. The implementation period is 1 year. The amount of financing is 500,000 tenge.
- Results of scientific work on projects and agreements on international cooperation
Within the framework of the international academic mobility program Erasmus+Teaching Mobility, the head of the Department, IYA Dzhantasova D.D., was sent to the Romanian-American University (Bucharest, Romania) to exchange experience with university teachers, read the course “Intercultural Communication and Academic Collaboration” and conduct joint research in the field of communications in management. Students of this university gained knowledge about the development of communication strategies for establishing and maintaining successful cooperation in business management. The course was held from April 24 to 28, 2023. (Order No. 286ls dated 04/11/2023)
In order to exchange experience, professional growth of teaching staff, and improve research activities, the Department of Foreign Languages actively cooperates with Tambov State Technical University. Within the framework of the cooperation agreement with Tambov State Technical University, the teachers of the Department of Foreign Languages prepared reports for publication for the VI International Scientific and Practical Conference “Teaching a foreign language in a professional context: traditions, innovations, prospects”, which was held on the basis of Tambov State Technical University on May 12-13, 2023.
In addition, within the framework of the cooperation agreement with Tambov State Technical University, teachers of the Department of Foreign Languages and Professional Communication of TSTU prepared for publication reports on breakout sessions for the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Integration of Science, Education and Production – the basis for the implementation of the National Plan” (Saginaw Readings No. 15), which was held on the basis of Karaganda Technical University named after Abylkas Saginov on June 16-17, 2023.
Work was also carried out at the invitation of a foreign scientist, associate professor of Nazarbayev University, Bridget Goodman as a speaker at the plenary session with a presentation on “EMI in Multilingual Settings: STEM programs in Kazakhstan” at the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Integration of Science, Education and Production – the basis for the implementation of the National Plan” (Saginaw Readings No. 15), which was held on the basis of Karaganda Technical University named after Abylkas Saginov on June 16-17, 2023.
Within the framework of the Partnership Program of universities in the USA and Kazakhstan, and universities in the USA and Central Asia (UniCEN), Head of the Department IYA Dzhantasova D.D. participated in the seminar on research methodology “Advanced Research Methodology Workshop”, which was held in Almaty on June 9-10, 2023, organized by the American Council for International Cooperation (there is a certificate).

In the period from 1 to 31 March 2023, students of the 1st Year of Karaganda Technical University named Abylkassa Saginova under the leadership of the Department of foreign languages participated in the regional competition essay “my Alma Mater”, which was held by the Department of foreign languages East-Kazakhstan Technical University im. D. Serikbaeva in the framework of the celebration of 65-Letia Vuza. In general, 24 students took part in 8 teachers of the department and in the essay contest.
At the end of the competition, the purpose of which was to increase the motivation of students to study foreign languages and support students with English language, as well as the disclosure in students of the need for cooperation with the University with more half-time history, was announced in “day of Science” 12 April. On the eve of great holiday Nauryz, on 17 March, the solemn evening was held in Poltechnic cafe. The starts of University scene made performance for the audience. The event called “Nauryz Time” was dedicated to the completion of the traditional competitions, dedicated to this ancient holiday.
The event was organized by the Association of Student Trade Union of KSTU “Zhas Orda” with the support of the student activists.
As a result of the competition, our machine-building faculty took first place.
